Whatcom Fondo

Next up is the Whatcom Fondo on Sunday, May 21st. This ride will be a fondo format, which means self-paced, supported ride with mapped and marked routes, cue sheets, mechanical support, and a sag wagon. Ride begins with coffee at Bloedel Donovan Park at 7:30am and ends back at the park. Lunch from Cafe Velo will be provided mid-ride. As with all of our rides, space is limited - register now!

Route Description
The Whatcom Fondo will be circumnavigating Lake Whatcom. The high points of the day include climbing Stewart Mountain and a jaunt over Anderson Mountain. The ride is 55 miles and includes 7,200 feet of climbing. We will be riding 40 miles on gravel and 15 miles on pavement.
*Note: A GPS route and cue sheet will be provided to registered riders the Friday before the ride.

How is this different from other Grind Corps rides?
We have put on three events this year--Burnout Brunch, Electric Grind, and Chuckanut Grind. These have all been grinduro-style, group rides. This means regardless of pace, ability, or preparedness that we stayed in one group. Together we tromped through snow, shot down singletrack, and drank beer at the top of some great overlooks. It also meant some long, cold, early-season rides. The gravel season is now transitioning to summer fondos. While these rides will include more climbing and longer distances, they won't be quite as soul sucking and the weather will be nicer. The rides will be on established gravel/paved roads following marked routes with cue sheets. We will be out supporting the ride instead leading the ride. So join us in this transition and rack up some miles in preparation for RAMBOD.
